For the Lynda assignment, I watched a tutorial on Typography for Web Designers. One of the main aspects of the assignment was teaching the user how to use web-safe fonts (fonts that are automatically downloaded on almost all computers and devices) in a way that is appealing to the viewer and matches the emotion that is displayed in that specific area of a website. This can be done by changing the space in between letters, changing color, boldness or italics, or changing the font size. Additionally, basic vocabulary of type was explained, including the appropriate times to use certain elements of fonts. Topics included were sans and sans serif fonts, apertures, bowls, shoulders, and strokes of lines. The ultimate goal of this tutorial was to teach web designers how to promote readability (the ease at which a reader can read words or blocks of text) and legibility (the ability to distinguish one letter from another).
