adaptable communicator, compelling storyteller and passionate public relations professional.
My name is Alana Hood and I’m a recent graduate of the University of Georgia, with a BA in public relations, minor in fashion merchandising, and a certificate in new media.
I am currently a Public Relations Professional at Jackson Spalding in Atlanta. Predominately on the Delta Air Lines account, I work in project management and copywriting roles with the Delta Community Engagement and Delta Digital Marketing departments. I manage planning and execution of various Community Engagement communications pieces, including industry award submissions, internal newsletters, media monitoring reports, and various collateral pieces for external events. I work to create communications tactics and talking points to showcase Delta’s giving story and positioning Delta as a leader in the CSR space. In digital marketing, I collaborate with Jackson Spalding’s creative team to produce email copy for a wide variety of parties at Delta, including SkyMiles, Delta SkyClub and partnership initiatives.
Until February 2019, I interned in public relations at the Mercedes-Benz headquarters in Atlanta. I worked across three sectors of PR, including corporate communications, internal communications, and community relations. Throughout my ten-month internship, I engaged in media relations by creating seven releases for local and national distribution, responded to journalist inquiries, executed pitches, and gathered coverage reports through Cision, IQ Media, and Muckrack platforms. I managed the overhaul of internal newsletter design, crafted 46 internal blog posts, created a 20+ page business report monthly for executive management that covered industry and MBUSA-specific topics, an interpreted sales data through spreadsheet analysis. Finally, I communicated with community partners and helped organize four company-wide volunteer events in the Atlanta area.
While at UGA, I served as the Vice President of Public Relations for Panhellenic Council, overseeing the eighteen sororities on our campus, and served as the vice president: Panhellenic for Delta Gamma, where I was a liaison between my sorority and Greek life as a whole. I also worked as a discipler and small group leader for the Wesley Foundation on campus, a mentor position where I meet weekly with two younger students, and weekly with twenty freshmen students, to help them in their walk through college. Additionally, I was a member of TEDxUGA, PRSSA, and Order of Omega honor society.
I hope to find a full time position in the area of public relations, marketing, advertising, or digital media. My skills include Adobe Creative Cloud, predominately in Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator; HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap coding; social media; and Google Analytics.
My past intern experiences were with Georgia Emergency Management Agency, Deep South Social Creative Consultancy, and Weddings in Athens. At GEMA, I worked as a public affairs intern, creating infographics, a social media calendar, and articles for both internal and external publications. At Deep South Social, I worked as a PR Intern and wrote blog posts for the clothing company Tutu Moi, wrote entrepreneurial blogs for Deep South Social, posted on their Instagram daily, and worked on PR and media campaigns for Deep South Social, Tutu Moi, and the clothing company River Wild. At Weddings in Athens, I served as a blogging intern, writing multiple blogs each week that highlighted the latest wedding trends, highlighted local Athens vendors, and gave newly weds a platform to share their story.
I’m also a big fan for all things communication, travel, running, and Seinfeld.
